Opium
A BAXCO original product-design study reimagining an Eli Lilly & Co. powdered opium extract from c. 1900. For centuries, opium was one of medicine's most important drugs, used in preparations for pain relief, sedation, coughs, diarrhoea, and a remarkable range of other ailments.
Its influence, however, extended far beyond the medicine cabinet. Opium became a hugely valuable global commodity, helped trigger the Opium Wars between Britain and China, and provided the foundation for increasingly powerful derivatives including morphine and heroin. Its legacy continues today through the wider family of opioid drugs.
Despite having been used for centuries, by the dawn of the 20th century opium was being bottled, branded, and marketed by modern pharmaceutical companies alongside their other medicines. Stripped back to the packaging, typography, and chemical structure, Opium captures that extraordinary collision between an ancient natural remedy and the emerging modern pharmaceutical industry.

PRINT & PAPER
Every BaxCo print is produced on Hahnemühle Photo Rag® 308gsm, a heavyweight, 100% cotton fine-art paper with a beautifully soft, lightly textured matt surface. Acid- and lignin-free and compliant with the ISO 9706 standard for age resistance, it is specifically designed for museum-quality fine-art reproduction.
We print using archival pigment inks for exceptional colour, tonal depth and detail. Together, the paper and pigment inks create a print designed to resist fading and retain its character for generations when properly cared for.

Prints are supplied unframed, giving you the freedom to choose a frame to suit your space. Each artwork includes the border shown in the product image and is designed to work with standard A-series frames.

In-stock prints
Usually dispatched within 1–2 working days. UK orders are sent using a tracked 48-hour service.
Printed-to-order prints
Please allow 3–5 working days for your print to be produced and prepared for dispatch. UK orders are then sent using a tracked 48-hour service.
International delivery
We ship worldwide. Delivery times vary depending on destination and will be shown at checkout.
Each print is carefully packaged to protect it in transit. We want you to be completely happy with your print. If your order arrives damaged or there is a problem with your purchase, please contact us and we will put it right. If you change your mind, prints may be returned in their original condition within 14 days of receipt. Please contact us before returning an item. Custom-sized prints are produced to order and cannot be returned unless damaged or faulty.
